A FUNCTIONAL HOME FOR A GROWING FAMILY.
Full house renovation and second storey addition completed in Wheeler Heights on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
The renovation of this formerly modest, three bedroom family home was completed in two stages. The latest renovation was the addition of a second storey, full kitchen and bathroom renovations, plus a new, all-weather deck.
The Four Hammers team had previously completed a renovation of this original, single-storey, brick veneer home. As the client’s family grew, we were called back to add a second storey and complete the renovation to modernise all the interior spaces, including the kitchen and bathroom.
The end result was a functional home that will comfortably accommodate the family as children grow and their needs change.
The purpose of the second storey addition was to move the bedrooms upstairs, thereby creating more living space downstairs.
The upstairs floor plan included a large parents retreat with ensuite bathroom and walk-in robe, two additional bedrooms and a bathroom for the children. There was also ample space for a study / home office which came in very handy during COVID lockdowns.
A deck off the master suite provides a sunny outdoor area for the parents to escape when things get a little chaotic inside.
Downstairs, the first renovation was completed with the installation of a new kitchen. One of the original bedrooms housed a new butler’s pantry and staircase to the upper level. Understair storage was utilised and converted into expansive storage accessible from the butler’s pantry. See photo below.
The back deck was a welcome addition to the home and has created another room that the family can use rain, hail or shine. A ceiling fan and heater mean it can be enjoyed all year round.
To complement the rendered brick exterior of the original house, the second-storey addition was clad in timber weatherboards and a new Colorbond roof added. The grey and white colour scheme was continued, the result being a seamless unity between the old and new.
